Well, it’s been a while… as in over a year-while. In that year, I had another baby… and I’ve been doing all sorts of things that being a mom of a 4.5 year old and a 9.5 month old entails. I’ve also been squeezing in photography when time allows. It has been quite the challenge fitting in the demands of being a wife, mother of two, and a part-time photographer. When people ask me how photography is going, I like to say that I’m too busy for my life as it currently is, but not quite busy enough to feel comfortable about using routine childcare to get work completed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I feel so fortunate to spend time with my kids while they’re really little and changing so quickly. I also feel fortunate that my work is something that I love. (I’d just like a little more sleep sometimes, that’s not too big a wish is it?)
The most recent photography adventure I had was taking photos at an auction for the Tiny Footprints Guild. The auction raised over $35,000 for pre-term birth medical research. The guild dedicates funds raised to the Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity and Stillbirth (GAPPS). They have held silent auctions in years past, but I was so very honored to be the photographer of their very first live auction!
The event had a great turn-out, and the attendees were fun, generous, and mostly willing subjects (a big change from photographing toddlers!). I had a fantastic time watching the excitement as people bid on some great auction items… an autographed Russell Wilson jersey and Pete Carroll football created one of the largest bidding wars of the evening! It felt so good to volunteer my time and services for such an important and under-recognized philanthropy. The Tiny Footprints Guild thanked me at the end of the evening for taking photos, but I felt humbled and thankful to be able to do my small part of a larger purpose.
